Well, today was my Grandfather's funeral. It was really beautiful.

I mostly held myself together today, but when it got to the Open Microphone part, and my mother stood up and started telling stories about how my grandpa would read and play with my sister and myself when we were babies, I started to cry.

Here's my favorite grandpa story:

I was probably only two years old, and my favorite book in the whole entire world was "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss. Since my father was working nights at the time, it was my Grandpa who took over the 'father' role for me and my sister when we were babies/toddlers. Anyway, I loved "Green Eggs and Ham" so much that I wanted it read to me constantly. Grandpa would humor me a few times, but eventually, he would get sick of reading the book, and toss it across the room. But two-year old Ashley could not be deterred from her favorite book. I would chase it across the room, pick it up, and return it to him.

Toss the book, I fetch it, toss the book, I fetch it. It became a game.

I never had a chance to ask him, and now I wish I did: "Do you remember "Green Eggs and Ham"? You could probably recite that book from memory because you read it to me so many times."

Both my sister and I were really sad at the funeral. My grandfather had four sons, and yet only two grandchildren: my sister and myself. So, he adored us, and always had. I can tell by looking at pictures of him holding us when we were babies. I'm going to miss him desperately.

Grandpa Eddie: 1927-2009. Rest in peace.

Oh, by the way, Merry Christmas!!!

Well, Santa was very... VERY generous to me this year! And I'm (mostly) pleased with my presents. The worst part about growing up is that people seem to think I need foo-foo stuff that I'll never use in a million years.

But, that's for relatives who don't know me so well. My parents fulfilled my Christmas wish.

No longer will I have to struggle with Windows Vista! I have officially upgraded to Windows 7!

My only beef is that, since I was running on Vista Home Premium and am trying to upgrade to Professional, I couldn't do a regular update to transfer all my files, programs, and settings over. I had to uninstall Vista, then install 7, but I was able to back up most of my documents and files. I just have to reinstall some of my programs. That will take a while, but the results will probably be worth it.

So far, I'm having a lot of fun with it, and will probably fall more in love with it as I start really putting it through its paces. My cousin all ready has it, and he says it's good. And my sister is using it at her house, and she says it's the best version of Windows EVER!

We'll see. I'm just glad that I don't have to struggle with Vista anymore!

"Avatar" Review

I still think James Cameron should have come up with another name besides "Avatar" since the movie really had nothing to do with what Avatars really are, but that is my only complaint in a long list of how awesome this movie is! And a minor complaint at that.

Sure, the plot is not the most complex in the world, but I didn't really go for plot. I went to see the movie for pure entertainment value, and "Avatar" delivers like crazy on this front.

There were several times where I was leaning forward in my seat, awed by the amazing visuals found on Pandora, the planet where the movie takes place. The flora and fauna of Pandora is simply amazing, and almost like characters of their own, especially the Soul Trees.

Environmental issues abound in "Avatar", so much so that it came off as nearly Japanese. But it's not like crazy treehugging that put most people off. I'm not much of a treehugger, but even I felt sad at the atrosities commited by "The Company".

The Na'vi culture is really well thought out, kind of a mixture between the Native Americans and Druids. Learning their culture and seeing their world was some of the best parts in the entire film.

Overall, I would give this movie a strong "A". "A" for "Avatar".

And, now, for less serious matters. Before the trailer for "The Last Airbender" got pushed back to Feb, I always thought it would be somewhat of an irony for the trailer to be released with the movie "Avatar", I'm sure I don't have to explain why. But, "The Last Airbender" full-length trailer is not ready, but another theatrical trailer was released that I was looking forward to. "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" now has a full-length trailer! And, judging solely by the trailer and the fact that I'm a fan of the books, it seems to be shaping up to be a good adaption.

Then again, it is being directed by Chris Colombus, who did the first two Harry Potter movies, and those were the best adaptions out of all of them.

Here's a link to the new Theatrical Trailer: [link]
